[CH] Commercial posts

Times are changing!

It was only a year, or maybe a year and a half, ago since the last taste
test/product survey happened here on the list. Now Calvin is taking some
heat. Maybe it's because at the end of the last test, there wasn't much more
summary information and a web address given - not much possibility for
continued marketing through the list. But it does seem that things were a
bit friendlier last time this happened.

Now we have people presenting (good) ketchup v salsa marketing opinions in
MIME format, which fills the list with junk for many, but people aren't
saying much in complaint, as a rule. Except for me, anyway. I hate that stuff.

Seems to me that at this point Calvin's powder has been through it's
evaluation cycle here on the list - and it's *entirely* valid to request
that evaluation. CH's have a vested interest in being in on these things.
I'm not seeing a flood of marketing posts from Calvin. One or two. That's OK
with me - it seems to have been done completely in response to a flood of
positive comments. If he intends to market on the web, as well as survey,
he'll build a web site, maybe do a Cold Fusion back end for it, etc.

I just hope that these posts don't discourage other people who might want to
run an appropriate marketing survey on this list. We would *all* loose by
it, if that were to happen. Maybe the lack of specialized surveys is what
brought us Pace Mild. Horrible thought, and not too likely, thank God. We
don't want that on our conscience. What *is* likely, if we don't relax
standards a bit for surveys, is that a potentially great boutique sauce or
salsa maker might not form a business, because we were too unfriendly to
provide a forum for him or her to decide whether or not the product would be
well received amongst the intended audience. IMHO, that's *not* in our best
interest - potential vendors would likely play safe, and we'd end up with
yet another Pace Mild, heatless Jalapeno, etc. Or, more likely, that vendor
would never start the business.

How is that we could allow one-sentence messages, with 15-line promotional
signatures, repeated as many as 6-8 times per digest, while saying *nothing*
as little as 6 weeks ago, and fail to support a new small vendor? Is this
the CH list of 2-3 years ago? What's happened to us?

Disclaimer - Biosphere Communications has not been a party to the Calvin's
survey, and has no financial interest in, or connection with, Calvin's
products. Nor will Biosphere Communications bid on, or accept any offer,
related to any potential Web site related to Calvin's products. In short, no
money has (or ever will) change hands here. It's just an opinion.

Regards,
