Well, Daryl, I agree with all but the last line of your post!!

I, too, hate ties - though, working in the corporate world, it's a daily 
thing for me.  And, you're right - they serve no useful function at all.

Which led me, a few years ago, to write the attached.  Best read 
A/LOUD!!
