Phil: I run my plants E-W, with the land sloping to the South. I believe the only thing that matters, here, is long rows slanted to the South, which warms both the soil and the plants better. The only thing I've ever read on orientation has to do with planting the taller plants on the North side (that shading thing again). Robert.
