I have bought some of the new 'arn' stuff which  is  pretty rough on the
inside.  I put a wire brush on the end of my engraving lathe and smooth
it out -  you can do the same thing with a wire brush on a hand held
electric  drill.   There are several different grades of wire brush.
Start with a coarse then go to a medium then a fine.
for flat surfaces I use  "bell" shaped brushes
Be sure and wear goggles and gloves ---
