[CH] TMV Spread?

I'm hoping someone can settle a little disagreement.

One of my guajillo plants has developed tobacco mosaic. I made a comment to
my wife that we might consider not dumping our visitors' cigarette butts
into the compost heap, since I had read in DeWitt/Bosland when trying to
diagnose the problem that TMV can be spread by handling tobacco.

My wife says that dumping the butts into the compost heap is unlikely to
promote the spread of TMV.

Any thoughts?
