In my experience, she's wrong.  Putting them in the compost, flicking
them into the garden, smoking in the garden, or (I'm told by friends)
even handling the plants after smoking and before washing hands can
spread it. Partly seems to depend on the weather and the part of the
country, but it's not something I risk.
