      notorious comments against the gay community and the subsequent hoo-rah
(boycott, etc.) against the Florida citrus growers, for whom Ms. Bryant
promoted 

My all time favorite response to both Anita's bashing and her citrus
connection was a collection of T-shirts distributed to women at a rally in the
Boston Common which had two citrus fruits at strategic locations over the
legend "Squeeze a fruit for Anita Bryant."
