and got some debunking advice.  

I have observed, however that this is a useful generalization about
cultivated varieties of Capsicum annuum.  It certainly works at the
extremes of Bells and Cayennes, for instance.  It breaks down for
inter-specific comparisons, for example between habaneros and Anaheims.
