Cannor remember who mailed me about Sambal- an Indonesian sauce, but, for
the record, it is crushed red chile powder in oil with any other spices
(especially cumin) to taste. Any South East Asian supply shop will do
there 'own brand'.
P.S. The RUMDONG Tjai Restuarant, in exotic Guildford (UK), serves
magnificent chilli creations- and they're cheap too [not a partner there,
just a happily stuffed stupid one; normal disclaimers]
