Alex remembered:

Old business: Remember when the call went out here about the $.79 cans of
Embasa chipotles at Odd Lots, a year or two ago?
============================
Yup,

That was me chile-head friends. Thanks also for the posts about mixing
them with cream cheese as a spread, I tried and like it!

I just got back from a Big Lots excursion and remembered to pick up a few
things that I didn't last time. I found large (1lb. 11 oz.) cans of Old
Sonora whole green chiles for .99 so I picked up a can. This might be the
ticket for those who don't have any frozen fresh chiles. I figured it
might be a good thing to have on hand....to go along with some other stock
items for the "you never know what might not be available Jan. 1, 2000"!!!
I also saw but did not buy Tabasco brand soy sauce. It said an aged soy
sauce with just the right amount of tabasco.....it too, was .99 but I
didn't try it. Have any of you?

On a popper note: I posted awhile back that I made the poppers that Steve
had posted, the ones wrapped in bacon and admitted to having gone on memory
(or lack there of...) and didn't realize that they were breaded first. I
love the way they turned out and would not bread them as it is extra work.
At any rate, if'n any of you are having or going to a Super Bowl party or
just need a good snack this weekend, give these a try:

Jalapenos (I start with a dozen) end cut off, seeds and membrane removed

Stuffing:
1/2 package of cream cheese
2 cloves fresh garlic minced
1/4-1/3 cup of minced imitation crab meat (real if you have it but I haven't)
some minced onion
enough shredded cheddar to thicken to a stronger medium
Bacon slices cut in half
tootpicks (o.k. , not an ingredient but necessary!)

Method:

Stuff peppers with cream cheese mixture and maybe a peice of cheddar to
sort of plug the end more so it doesn't melt out. Wrap with a 1/2 strip of
bacon, secure with toothpick. Deep fry for a few minutes in just enough
oil to cover (I do this right in a small sauce pan, you don't need a deep
fryer). Drain on paper towel and move to another plate and cut into rings.
They are wonderful!!!

See what you think,
Linda
