just for the record ... i enjoy raw shellfish, in-season & from safe
sources.
and yes, there IS more than one "nasty" that can be of concern when
consuming shellfish from any source.
among them ... (PSP) paralytic shellfish poisoning, E. coli, & vibrio
vulnificus,
vibrio parahaemolyticus, and uh .. cholera.
every year, some folks from Alaska to Florida get ill and some die from
eating raw
seafoods.
does hot sauce save ya? nope.
ask the experts at http://www.state.me.us/dmr/rm/publichealth.html
there's a list of email addresses there.

incidentally, if one applies enough H2O (water) to the world's largest
creature,
the blue whale, you could drown it. swallowing a blue whale will almost
certainly
result in a major case of indigestion. hot peppers notwithstanding.
