.Shepherds Seeds is a mail-order company which originally was located
in California. The company was sold about 4 years ago to another mail
order company in Connecticut. I think it was White Flower Farms. For
several years Shepherds had an exclusive contract to sell Red Savina
seeds in retail quantities. NK Lawn & Garden is located in
Chattanooga Tennessee and is a separate company. After an alert
reader told me that they were also selling Red Savina I found the
seeds at a local supermarket.

I contacted GNS a couple of years ago about selling Red Savina seeds
and was told that they had an exclusive agreement with Shepherds and
would not sell to me. Based on the fact that NK now is offering them
I called GNS but the gentleman who handles seed sales is traveling in
Europe. He is expected back on Friday and I hope to hear from him.

My understanding when I first inquired was that it was illegal to
export PVP protected varieties from the US. This is to protect the
patent from being duplicated outside the reach of the US legal
system. Obviously with the opening up of international commerce and
the internet, this prohibition has failed.
