1998 Pig & Pepper Barbecue Harvest
----------------------------------
Great BBQ, Great Music, and Great Fun at the
Eight Annual Pig & Pepper Harvest
Come on down to the tastiest southern-style barbecue in New England at
the Eighth Annual Pig & Pepper Barbecue Harvest. Admission to the event
is $ 7 for adults and $ 4 for children under twelve.
Once again the Pig & Pepper will host two Championship Barbecue Cookoffs.
Saturday's event features two amateur barbecue competitions. Cooking
categories for these amateur enthusiasts range from seafood (smoked or
grilled) to meats (any meat smoked or grilled). On Sunday, nearly a
dozen professional and the most serious amateur teams will vie for the
title of State Barbecue Championship, smoking their very best finger
licking' brisket, ribs, pork shoulder, and chicken. This competition is
sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society, an organization
nationally recognized for its barbecue expertise. If you don't want to
compete, but you want to satisfy your cravings for mouth watering,
authentic barbecue, a wide variety of vendors including such favorites
as Jake's, Redbone's, Sit 'N Bull Pub, and Tennessee's Barbecue will be
on hand.
| Complementing the spicy barbecue competition is the festive pepper
| contest, with prizes in a wide range of categories including pepper
| plants, barbecue sauces, salsas, and pepper relishes, with many
| products for sale.
Arts and crafts exhibitors will be on hand to show their handiwork,
some of which will also be on sale to fair-goers.
The well-known and homegrown talents of Bluestime with Jay Geils and
Magic Dick, will headline an impressive array of musical entertainment
throughout the two-day festival. The Kid's Corral will entertain the
younger set, with a wide range of country games and activities, pony
rides and hayrides.
All net proceeds from this volunteer effort go to the support of public
education in the towns of Westford and Carlisle. The Pig & Pepper is
organized by the Carlisle Education Foundation and the WestNet
