A good day to all from South Africa,

We are experiencing one of the wettest summers in recent history, lots of
problems with "root rot" and other fungus related plant diseases.

Just a word of thanks to all those who were kind enough to send me chile
pepper seeds in 1999...
Most germinated and are now in full fruit.
Special thanks to Peter Moss, Steve Black and Karl Scott.

Now for the real issue:

My wife and I received the jubilant news that we are expecting a BABY!
Great news, but a few things will have to be sacrificed when it comes to her
dietary needs...

We both love it "Very Hot & Spicy" but will it have any negative or positive
impact on our baby during this crucial time of development?

If you would allow me, a quote from "Your pregnancy" magazine:
"Pregnancy is a time of special need.
Looking after yourself in every way and thinking about what you eat is an
act of love toward your unborn child.
While you strengthen and improve your own body, remember that you are also
building the body of a brand new person.
That body has to last your child an entire lifetime.
So build a good one!"

We are not prepared to take any chances, so any well informed factual
replies will be highly appreciated.

Looking forward to hearing from you all...

PS: I am looking for the following seeds and/or plants;
- Saffron (Iredaseae Crocus sativus)
- Vanilla (Orcidaceae Vanilla fragrans syn. Vanilla planifolia)
- Cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum)
- Cassia (Cinnamomum cassia)
- Tumeric (Curcuma domestica, syn C. longa) These are best grown from the
rhizome
- Cardamom (Elettaria cardamomum) I have some of the seed pods in white,
green and black but I believe most commercially available Cardamom harvested
before maturity, making it unsuitable for germination.
- Cloves (Eugenia caryophyllus)
- Liquorice (Glycyrrhiza glabra)
- Juniper (Juniperus comminus) I have not been successful in germinating
these from the commercial berry, possibly you could advice
- Allspice (Pimenta dioica) Same problems with germination as above

I shall end the list and the mail at this point in fear of taxing your
patients.
