Thanks everyone for your help with the black flying bugs. From the description, they are the fungus gnat. I guess I'm fortunate that my chile and tomato seedling are strong and healthy, and having tottered over at soil level. I have lost a basil and a hibiscus though--only one each. I'm fortunate! I will now (bowing to the wisdom on the list) let my peat pots dry out before the next watering. Again thanks! Regards, Cathy
