Hawaiians eat 3 times the per capita rate of other US citizens. It has to
do with beef and pork on the hoof being so scarce and expensive for the
common folk. Between the pistachio nuts, the Maui Wowee, and the tourist
dollars meat on the hoof is a loss-leader.
