What comes to mind, iirc, is a gravity pump--uses the water head to power a
small (or large) pump.  I did a quick search at www.google.com and came up
with this:

They sell them, I've never heard of them, and this was the first link I
clicked.  (I searched on "gravity pumps".)

I've seen designs for making these but it's been _years_.  I'm sure you
could find something on the Web.
