raja means strip...(careful, knuckle-draggers)...in mexico, rajas usually
refers to serranos or jalapenos, sliced lengthwise into 1/4 inch strips,
sauteed with onions, with a squeeze of the ever present lime...served as
a side dish or condiment...

does that fit the context of what you read?...if not, i can make
something else up...<g>
