Might try threading 3/8" or 1/2" rebar (steel rod for concrete) through the
pvc.  Cheaper and easier than emt.  Or use some other reinforcing material.
Could also use 1" schedule 80 or even sch 160 instead of 3/4" sch 80.

btw, you can get emt benders at electrical supply or possibly discount
houses like Home Depot.  Should get a tubing cutter too.  Hack saws get old
real fast with emt.

You also might consider doing something other than a hoop.  Like

   /\
  /  \
  |__|   Use a 45deg angle at the top.  Just some thoughts.
