Oh, gee, and I thought it sucked here. Thanks to some ill-informed state
assembly people, they decided that "deregulation" of electricity was a good
idea. (And in the tradition of Ted Kennedy who fought for airline
deregulation, they are all Democrats who have banked large contributions from
the utility companies.) The thing is, they deregulated the price, but not the
supply. So, there is no competition, just higher prices. The theory would
be that if the price remains high there would be motivation to build new
power plants and engage competition. The reality is that the existing
utility companies (with cooperation from the legislators on their payroll)
have blocked every attempt to build new power plants.
But, hearing your story Byron, I ain't gonna complain about my $95 gas and
electric bill. Well, except that a year ago it would have been $40. Steve
Peace should have stuck to making bad movies and stayed out of gummit. BUT,
the good news is that I've just moved into his district. I'll be voting for
his opponent.
And, how about one of those kerosene heaters for the hoop house?
