Much bigger problem is phytophthora crown rot.

Plant turns black at the soil line and then stems die.
Once plants have it and it is in the soil, not many cures for home gardener.
Typical recommendations are plant grain crops for 5 to 7 years.

TMV is a no problem per NMSU. Can also be inactivated with dishsoap per
NCSU..
