Well, if it's the endorphins and they decrease your ability to tell when
the cold is severe enough to be painful, you could be setting yourself up
for frostbite.  As someone who used to get stoned and ride a motorcycle
in deep winter, I speak from experience, and have the scars to prove it. 
 And I can tell you, frostbite hurts like the worst burn you ever had,
and heals miserably slowly.

I hope someone will pass this along to the winter bikers' list.
