<< The last time I ate anything prepared with dried split peas, I learned
they made beans look like kindergarteners in the flatulence category.
Question, does "ring of fire" also translate to "halo of fire" if one eats
Doug's pea >>

I just had to respond to this with a couple of cooking tips.

espazote or asfaetida reduce these problems greatly. Epazote is used in
Mexican Bean dishes for this reason. It is also called wormweed (Chenopodium
ambrosioides). It is a strong scented foliage highly esteemed in Mexico and
Guatemala for seasoning corn, black beans, mushrooms, fish, and shellfish.

Asafoetida (Ferula foetida) family-scorodosma. It is called Hing in Hindi.
It is used in Dal and many Indian dishes! It is the resinous gum of a plant
growing in Iran and Afghanistan. Used in minute amounts it's main purpose
is to prevent flatulence and it adds a distinct flavor similar to garlic.
