We plant our seeds about a half-inch apart, and when they grow their
first set of true leaves, we transplant them slightly deeper in a
new pot. We seldom loose a plant doing this. Years back, we
started three seeds in each cell and snipped off all but one, but we
hated chopping off perfectly good plants....
