[CH] the right time for planting seeds in sydney?

when do people here start planting their seeds indoors here in sydney,
australia (coastal,temperate, southern hemisphere)?
i've just read that it's possible to start them in july, which means i've
got a lot of work to do. is there any benefit from starting them indoor
early (i haven't got a lot of sunny indoor space for plants). i'm going to
try to grow about a dozen different types, so i'm thinking the easier, the
better.
