In answer to your plant question ma'am, the conditions you describe
(steamy, wet) combined with the symptoms (leaf abcision, tiny brown
spots) lead me to belive that it is bacterial spot.  I'm afraid that
there isn't much of a battle to be fought if this is truly what it is-
there are only losses to concede.  Bacterial spot is often fought with
copper based sprays but I have not had much luck with them.  About the
only 'cure' is to pull up the plants, clean up the debris, and hope it
doesn't spread.  The stuff is persistant as heck and highly contagious.
