They do the most damage in the 4th instar stage, IE just before the pupa stage. At this point they eat about 200 sq in of foliage. Each moth lays about 20 eggs, If you find 1, look harder for the rest of the family. Tossing somewhere else, gives them a chance to get away, and reproduce for next season.
