One of my closest friends is from northern Greece.  He said when he was a
kid, everybody made their own ouzo, except it was illegal and about 160
proof.  Add a few habs to that and you would get a burn that wouldn't care
!!


   It's really a neat layered effect.  First you get the licorice, then
the strength of the alcohol starts to become apparent (ok it assaults
you in a most in-your-palate way), as you recover from that the flavor
of the habs shows up and then a long back-of-the-throat hab burn.
That's how it is for me, anyway.
