Start; 53 years in the garden
Teen years, 600 acres in southern VT working on Uncles farm..

Add puter, add topic that recieves
over 80 flamers from [CH]

Add a couple CH that teach you how to use search engines. Thanks Art and
Tim

Add flamed topic leads you to chat with Directors of Plant Pathology at some
of the larger US Agi Schools.

Add, a latent teacher desire to help folks with garden problems
and spend time finding answers.

Add regret that I did not become a County Agent..

>>Too much knowledge

I have but scratched the surface of the plant world.

2 examples

In the world of insects, there are over 100,000 species on this plant.

About 20,000 have named

In aphids there are over 4,000 species, I can name less than 2 doz.

Plant diseases, there are over 1,100 named diseases, some affect all
plants, some are plant family specific and some like phytophthora capsi
aka chile wilt
are very crop specific. To the best of my knowledge this disease affects
peppers only..

Without the puter I can name maybe a dz or so plant diseases off the top of
my head..

I enjoy helping folks resolve garden problems, IE bugs and diseases.

One of the wildest searches I did was on Hornworm, Until last year
I thought there were only 2. Miss Dewi from NI sends a picture of one to
ID. I dug in and finally found a contact to the Curator of Moths of North
America, South America Africa and the Asia shelf countries. He in turn sent
data and picture to the other 1/2 of the world Curator in non other than NI.

In the process of looking for Miss Dewi's hornworm I now have links to the
2 top moth/butterfly specialist in the world.

I also learned that there are 772 species of Hornworm.

IMHO it is amazing how much one can learn while attempting to help others.

Of course this includes tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, potatoes, weeds like
horsenettle, Datura, jimsom weed, wild mustard, geranium, nicotina and
about 2,500 others.

I know your our resident guru but this "tidbit"of information is beyond
knowledge. "Horsenettle/Datura/Jimsom Weed/Nicotina are all common phrases I
use when discussing how to kill something eatin' my plants!!!
Hope some day to be at your level
(Or at least you at mine)
