According to Mark Ellis, and also to a local Sushi Chef (at Zono's in
Glendale, CA) there is a difference and real wasabi hard to get--some
say almost impossible.  Look at the label at your store--bet it says
"horseradish" and "FD & C Yellow and Blue", not "wasabi" (Eutrema
wasabi) as an ingredient.

This thread and some other unusual veggie that Mary wanted got us
searching this weekend.  Not so unfortunately we got sidetracked (in
Monterey Park, CA) with all the other food items available and didn't
really try to find real wasabi.  We did get some really pungent stuff in
a tube with the above ingredients.  And lots of other neat stuff we're
not real sure what to do with.  Well, we've managed to do something
tasty, but it's probably not too traditional.  ;-)
