You're so cheerful I almost hate to take exception! But in this neck of the
woods (Texas) grits and cornmeal are two different things. Grits is ground
hominy; cornmeal is, well, corn. While you can make mush out of both of
them, to my mind grits tend to be smoother and creamier while cornmeal mush
has more of a raw starchy taste and grittier(!) texture. I like them both,
though.

Besides, I've never known grits to be used for baking and the like.
