Hello All,

I haven't seen any reports from the Texas Fiery Foods show last
weekend, so I thought I'd do it. I went on Saturday, which is
generally the bigger day, but it was kind of small this year compared
to last year. Still, I picked up a bunch of stuff.

Things I got:

- Holy Mole salsa. I don't tend to like jarred salsas because they
always seem overcooked to me, but this is good and retains some
crunchiness.

- Habanero Jelly and Jerk Marinade from Austin Slow Burn. I had met
Jill and Kevin Lewis at the Austin Hot Luck earlier this year, so we
chatted for a few minutes.

- Several Jimmy O's marinades - Peach and Pepper Marinade, Teriyaki
Marinade, and Mesquite Marinade. They make a peach and habanero sauce
that I really like, but I hadn't tried the marinades until now.

- Toad Sweat desert sauces. They make a Key Lime and Habanero sauce,
and a Cranberry and Habanero, and were serving them on ice cream. I
picked up a bottle of each. Very tasty, sweet and hot.

- Kings Pepper - West African (by way of California ?!?!) pepper powder
with Cayenne, Alligator peppers(?), ginger, nutmeg, and some other
stuff. Medium heat with an interesting flavor. I'm not sure what to
do with it, though.

- Bear's Barbecue seasoning - A dry rub with not a lot of heat, but
some good BBQ flavor.

- Firestorm Popcorn Dust - slightly spicy popcorn seasoning, again, not
a lot of heat, but a nice flavor.

- Texas-Texas Chipotle steak sauce.

A couple of people I got some good stuff from last year were not there.
The couple from d'Oni were missing, and I really like their marinade.
Hector's Sauces was missing, and I really liked their smoked jalapen~o
and smoked habanero sauces.

The only other really notable incident was when I tried the 'Bailiff's
Brutality' capsaicin enhanced salsa (from the people who make 'Lawyer's
Breath' sauce). I was standing nearby when the guy at the booth told
someone how deadly it was. Of course, I had to try it then. Flavor
was pretty good (especially for an enhanced salsa), but I started a
coughing fit and my eyes watered for about ten minutes afterwards. Off
to Borden's for some chocolate milk.

The Toad Sweat was definately my best find.

- Bill
