[CH] Container Habanero advice needed

I'm new to the list, and I have a question I hope someone here can
answer....
I received as a gift this weekend a habanero plant in a container from
someone who couldn't stand the heat. I've never done container gardening
before (it's in a pretty good sized pot), and I was wondering if those of
you who have could give me some ideas on how to care for the plant over the
winter, so I can have early spring habs next year.
As an aside, I spent Labor Day laboring in the kitchen as I pickled nearly
30 pounds of habs, jalapenos, cayennes and poblanos. Ahh, the aroma still
brings a smile to my face.
