This particular information on my favorite Indian Chile was from Graeme 
Caselton who speaks British English.  We speak American :-) 
 I interrupted what he said as meaning native to that area of Indian and not 
originating there.

I am quite aware of Chiles originating in South America.

Not trying to be pedantic here, but I really understood that there are no

chiles native to India, or indeed any parts other than South / Middle

America.  As far as I'm aware any chiles that are grown in other parts of

the world have been spread there by Man.  The spice trade basically...
