Hi C-H's,

I've been watching this off topic discussion and willing
myself not to get into it, but with replies from Mary-Anne (it's
"papain" M-A.) Brent T and now Brother JIm appearing I cannot resist.

<< I was always under the impression that the bayleaf was poisonous which is
why you were supposed to remove it before serving your dish. >>

The leaves contain small amounts of cyanide. Not enough to do any
harm to a human in the quantities normally eaten, but the crushed
leaves are used by butterfly collectors in a closed vessel to kill
the insects with relaxed muscles so that they are easy to mount.

List cop, chile picking slave driver, brewer and trivia meister.
Well, one at least is useful.
