Since I originally posted the article about the USPS irradiating the
mail, I've heard from a commercial plant-grower and a gentleman who
raises certified organic seeds for sprouting <http://www.sprouting.com/>

Both men tend to believe that the USPS irradiating mail to sanitize it
will not happen. It seems that the USPS found it would cost 3.9
TRILLION dollars to buy enough machines for the country and it takes
so long to irradiate the envelopes enough that it would hopelessly bog
down mail. They suggest you label all seeds to go through the mail
with something lie "live seeds, do not irradiate" for the present.
