Dear Chile-Heads & Others: Yesterday at the supermarket I was checking
out; and next to me in those racks where they sell tabloids, diet books,
horoscopes, etc., was a little 4-6", 100-page paperback ($2.69 US, $3.09
CA, c$3.00 EU) titled FOODS OF THE BIBLE by Joanne Asala. It was published
by American Media Mini Mags, Inc., of Boca Raton, Florida. Email:
minimags@globefl.com

It provides a unique collection of all the Biblical scriptures relating to
food and drink and assembles quite a number of Middle Eastern recipes, from
diverse sources, on how to prepare such foods, using modern ingredients.
This book would be an unusual addition to any library of cookbooks. Here
are a few random recipes which are included:

Sweetened Pomegrante Juice
Sahalab Milk
Yogurt With Cucumbers
Middle Eastern Scrambled Eggs
Carrots With Cardamom
Cucumber Salad
Eggplant Salad
Taboulleh With Grapes
Mint Peas With Couscous
Essene Bread
Ezekiel Bread
Roman Bread
Venison Stew
Beef & Date Stew
Fish With Garlic & Tahini
Dry-Roasted Grasshoppers
Grasshopper Caramel Popcorn
Baklava
Honey Wine
Sweetened Figs

This is an amusing little book, and I recommend it. Regards, Roberto
