Hi,

First of all...normal disclaimer, I'm just talking out of experience, I'm
not promoting anything here

I use non stick pans with lots of success over the past 20 years and most of
them easy last over 5 years.
My advice is not to buy the cheap aluminum type but the more heavy iron
ones.
Iron will not expand as much as iron when heated, the advantage is that the
layer doesn't has to expand and shrink so much (and fast) each time, which
increase the life, plus the iron versions keeps his form better than the
aluminum.
When I use non stick pans I always take care of a few rules.
Before first use, I let them burn in with oil.
I never use metal tools for cooking (every body knows it but ... you know
sometimes when you don't have it by hand... ), I'm only using Teflon or
wooden tools.
Plus I never put them in the dishwasher or use soap when clean them, just
hot water and a nylon brush.
But when I see that the layer is damaged and flakes get off its going in the
bin immediately.
I don't know if its true but they say that this isn't healthy to eat the
layer... I personally don't think that teflon can do anything in your body,
and it will leave you the normal way... but don't know for sure.
