I try and avoid getting into political debates of any sort. People don't
like debating with me. So, to keep friends, I simply clam up. However, I
gotta toss in a few words.

| To quote Ben Franklin:
| "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary
| Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

I thought there was a part of that quote which said that they will not
have it, either?

| P.S. None of the 9/11 hijackers was carrying anything that was not
| permitted.

I started saying this within 24 hours of the attacks: No hijacking will
ever be successful again. I still say this, and reports since then have
shown me to be right.

When the terrorists flew those planes into the buildings, into the
ground, they changed the rules of hijacking. Before then, the rules were
that a few would, most likely, die, but most would be able to safely
leave the plane.

The day of the attacks, the rules became that everybody's life was
forfeit. Passengers realize this. They know that if a hijacker takes
over the plane, that everybody on the plane will die.

As a result, passengers will never again allow even a group of people to
take over a plane without making sure that the attempt does more damage
to the hijackers than anybody else.

Terrorists will find other ways to do their damage. However, this attack
shut down one of their tools of the trade. The days of hijacking planes
are over.

As to the security at airports, puh-leeze. I would bet that it is STILL
relatively easy to get weapons (even very good weapons) on board an
airplane. In fact, I'm pretty sure that, if I were so inclined, I could
pull it off at any airport in the country. Airport security is a joke,
and always has been. Airplane security? A couple hundred passengers
versus a small group of terrorists? The terrorists MIGHT be able to do
something, but it has to be VERY fast. The passengers will take down
anybody who tries anything.

Sorry, leaving rant mode now.
