What about a digital postage meter scale? I have one that measures up to 
5lbs. It's accurate enough for the post office. They are pretty tough about 
weight, so that makes me think the scale is reliable. It measures x.xx 
pounds. I can get a reading on a piece of paper (heavy stock = 0.02). It 
came with my Pitney Bowes Postage meter, so I don't know what it costs, but 
I bet Staples has one.
