Jeff,

I completely support your opinion on having a CH List FAQ.

I take minor exception to your implying use of "dumbass" with respect to a nubie question. I would never disparage a nubie for asking an honest question. Yes, I completely agree that a FAQ would be useful and efficient for such questions.

In the years that I've been a list member, I have seldom used a term such as "dumbass". Recently, I found it necessary to respond to a spammer that was spreading misinformation. (This type of actions really irks me.) I gently responded that the spelling of habanero was settled by the list in the Fall of '98, and also provided on authoritative source, as there is no CH FAQ. In response, he continued to promulgate his misinformation. So, in hope of terminating the discourse as quickly as possible, I brusquely replied with the result of a fairly thorough study.

A good, list-sponsored FAQ would also help to curtail repeat of debates as above.

Sincerely,
AndyB

Nothing against the list participants, but when a newbie posts a message and, out of ignorance, asks a question to which the answer is widely known, there are a lot of "hey dumbass" type responses, which might be avoided if a FAQ were available. Then again they might just get a bunch of "Read the FAQ Dumbass" responses, but that's better that 100+ emails on the proper Pronunciation of Habanero.
