Hi there, I am new to the Red Hot Chile scene, but have been enjoying the
letters (and the banter) very much. I am wondering, seing as there is such a
plethora of chile experts lined up on here, if you could help me to identify
a mysterious chile which I found in an Indian food store? Let me tell you
about it.
The colour is Orange and very wrinkled in flattish oval in appearance. The
length is about 1.5 inches and the width almost half of that. First of all I
photographed it, just in case, then I opened it up to remove the seeds and
dry them. As I opened it up, I was amazed at the very very powerful
fragrance which came from it. Very pungent Lemon. It was so powerful it
filled the room.
Not only i was the chile wrinkled, but I notice that the seeds (there were
18 of them) were also wrinkled, with a very pronounced twist to each one.
A very nice assistant in the Indian Store, told me that it came from Kenya ?
He also told me that it was hotter than the Habanero's which they also had
on display. Hmm! I think he might be right at that because ever since I
opened it up, I have been unable to get the oil off my fingers, in spite of
repeated washing. I keep forgetting not to lick my fingers to turn pages and
Wow! To say it is hot, must be the understatement of the year. Phew!
Apologies for going on so long. But I have checked the chile pepper database
and am unable to find this pepper listed. Please can anyone give me some
pointers? Identify this chile for me? Regards. Walt. Hull. England.
