For the record, the USDA banned the importation of Szechwan peppercorns,
Zanthoxylum piperitum, Z. simulans (also known as Sichuan) into the U.S.
over a year ago. It does not apply to products made with them, just the
peppercorns themselves. Apparently, if you grow them they can cause a canker
disease on citrus plants (lemons, grapefruit, etc.) They're not really
peppercorns, as the come from what we call the prickly ash tree.

Subject: [CH] Chef Chow's Szchewan hot paste

I used to be able to find this Hot pepper paste locally, but the small
store that carried it has closed. I have looked online and can't find a
retailer that carries the sauce. Can anyone point me to a supplier?

Thanks

Bill
