[CH] cold cures???

Dan  has been suffering from a terrible cold and sour throat which I am
trying to avoid.  So  far the following has  worked.  Any one have any other
suggestions??
Dan received lots of homemade chicken soup with vegetables topped with
generous dollops of hot sauce, at  4 hour intervals.  I opted for the New
England cure.  Hot cider with lots of RUM in it.  So far, Dan is much
better.   And, even better, I never got the cold and am in good humor
considering the sick husband....   Any comments??  Winter is coming too soon
