[CH] grinding habaneros

My mother gave me a blender for Christmas. So far, then only thing I have
used it for is peppers - once to make a sauce, and today to make hab powder.

Some of you may recall that at last year's Open Fields, I was handing out
sandwich bags of smoked and oven-roasted red habs. These were from the 2002
harvest. I still have more of these, and in an effort to clean my room,
I've decided to finally grind them into a powder.

This is masochism, plain and simple. But at least I'm smart enough not to
wipe my runny nose on these dust-contaminated sleeves...

I filled a used plastic seasoning jar with several ounces of powder. No
wonder this stuff is expensive, it takes a lot of work to produce it! Using
the blender instead of the grinder produces a dust with some flakes. The
smoked habs especially went to powder, while some of the roasted ones still
had a bit of leathery flexibility that produces flakes. I kept the blender
running until after I saw no more peices large enough to hop around in the
jar.

Coughing and sneezing, I remain your correspondent,

- A
