Greetings, all-

There was an article on capsaicin in "Chemical and Engineering News"
[the chemists' professional news journal] back in November. Apologies
if one of y'all cited it on these pages; if so, I missed same. A
follow-up letter has just appeared in CEN. Many of us may be
familiar with most of the info but this C_H likes to see the
professionals taking an interest in our favorite topic!

These can be found online at:
http://pubs.acs.org/isubscribe/journals/cen/81/i44/html/8144peppers.html
and
http://pubs.acs.org/isubscribe/journals/cen/82/i03/html/8203lett.html
[scroll down to second item]

I haven't had any tepins that I considered 'hotter' than habs [as the
letter writer claims]. But maybe my 'Birdseye' tepin is not as
powerful as the wild ones. Comments?
**********
A friend kindly sent me several different samples of rocoto seeds
along with a few comments as to how he nurses c. pubescens along in
the Tampa area. I hope to do better than last year [3 plants grown
out of 6 seeds started; 1 plant flowered, zero fruit]. The 3.5-ft.
diameter oak tree that my wife's hired help felled on top of the
plants in early Fall may have contributed to the lack of late-season
fruiting however (!).

Warm [as in chile] regards,

Gene
