Got a note from the Zangers- the folks who shot one of the open fields for the Food TV. Thought the list might be interested in it :-) Hello friends! For two weeks back in April 2003 in Scottsdale and Tucson, Stuart and I had a great time taping (and TASTING) the elements of a Food Network special, "Hot & Spicy Fiesta with Bon Appetit". We are writing to let you know its airdates, coming up this weekend and next. It's a "vcr alert" : pop a 60 minute tape into the machine to catch your own copy, although there are four chances to watch it or tape it, as always. Show hosts and chefs Bobby Flay and Michael Symon are in Scottsdale to play golf in a celebrity chef invitational sponsored annually by Bon Appetit--but we make sure they get off the links to sample the region's best foods! The two chefs explore the varied roots of what's called "Southwestern cuisine." That includes Mexican of course--homestyle, street, and haute, cowboy steaks, salsas of every kind, Native American foods, and "contemporary Southwest." That one uses traditional Southwestern ingredients, but applies classic French technique and lots of creativity. There's everything from a stadium-size amateur salsa-making contest to "Sonoran hotdogs" with everything, sold from a truck in South Tucson. We introduce some of the great Southwestern chefs too, including Donna Nordin, Janos Wilder, Vincent Guerithault, and many more. Some of the show's best moments happen in the "mom & pops" kitchens (including the Goldwaters'), where family cooks whip up surprises for Bobby and Michael, probably involving chiles... Poor Michael, whose taste buds hail from Cleveland, Ohio! Still, we bet some of those flavors landed on his menu at Lolabistro! (We KNOW Bobby's menu is loaded with Southwest.) Here are the play dates and times. All times are Eastern, and of course, the channel is Food Network: Sunday, April 18 at 10 p.m. Monday, April 19 at 2 a.m. Saturday, April 24 at 5 p.m. Sunday, April 25 at 4 p.m. We hope you can tune in and catch one of these times! Check TVFN's website for info, recipes, and contacts if you like, and maybe drop them a note if you like the show? We LOVE making Food shows! Karen and Stuart Zanger -Jim C Mild to Wild(R)
