[CH] Premature frutiting?

I'm wondering about the health of my NewMex chiles. I have
four of them, and rely on them to provide salsa bulk, so they're
pretty important, even if not very hot. For that task, I have the
4 NewMex, plus 2 Anaheims, and one Big Jim Anaheim. This
is San Fernando Valley, SoCal, and it's been pretty warm and
dry this winter/spring. It's been over 90 several days in the past
two weeks.

The NewMexs have started to flower and one has already a 3/4"
pepper! A couple of others (Piquin, Thai Dragon) have also started
peppers, but the other 3 dozen or so are still concentrating on the
proper task of becoming large plants. (The NewMex are only about
8" tall.) I'm wondering if this early pepper production indicates
the NM plants aren't going to do well, and I should replace them.
There is still time. With that in mind, I went to the nursery looking
for more. I didn't find any NewMex, but got two Big Chile, which
are described as Anaheim-type, fleshy, 8-10" long, which sounds
a lot like NewMex. They look healthy. I'm thinking of replacing two
of the NewMex with the Big Chiles. The reason I don't simply plant
all of them is I have run out of space in the raised beds, so every new
one means removing an existing one. All advice appreciated.
Thank you.
