OH NO!!! A climbing cutworm...ICK!  At least I could eat the rabbits but
grilled worms (or whatever a long past thread described) are just not my
idea of a good meal.

Are these something that comes out at night...I've not seen anything
crawling, flying, creeping or pouncing on my plants.

Yup  one of those nite feeders.  Standard cutworm collars should work,  
Or  Bt will prevent them from eating anymore.
