Yo Tony , Good to see you happy and healthy. My seeding program is well
under way with another 200 varieties of USDA,s seeded today so I reckon only
another 10 days of 10 X 198 cell trays and they will be all seeded. All of
my Big Jims and Habs are well up. I have Goliathe Jalapenos, altogether
another 17 flats with 1000 of each of 17 varieties up.(approx)
I've learnt to prick them out into cells at the first leaf stage as it means
a whole lot better survival rate with very few transplant shock victims.
Plus a soaking in seaweed extract after transplant does wonders.
I started using my fancy Elliot Coleman plugmaker but it is too expensive
using bales of peat and the plugs dont hold together using my homemade seed
raising compost. So I have shelved it till I am rich enough to afford the
bales.
I learnt a hell of a lot last season with regards to seedlings.
The green manure crop next door that you saw has grown to about 4' tall now
so will disc it in next week . MMM what a crop this year.
Maybe we should go to Open fields together in the future. That would be a
hoot of a trip eh!
Good luck Jim, I hope its a blast of an Open Fields.
Kind Regards
Marc Winterburn
